Municipal Sewage Treatment

In the field of sewage treatment, QM Environmental Services Nederland provides a wide range of solutions for water companies, but also for private individuals with small scale treatment systems at home. Our products are formulated to solve operational problems in all steps involved in wastewater treatment, both primary, secondary and tertiary treatment steps. When used on a preventative maintenance bases our solutions can prevent problems from occurring.

QM Environmental Services Nederland B.V. offer solutions for the following operational problems:

  • Reduced removal of solids in primary treatment systems like sand traps and primary settlement tanks
  • Poor sludge settlement caused by filamentous microorganisms
  • Clogging of sludge lines due to fat, oil & grease (FOG) accumulation
  • FOG accumulation in aeration tanks
  • Reduced biological activity due to toxic compounds present in the influent
  • Excessive sludge production
  • Sludge wasting during extreme rainfall
  • Sludge dewatering
  • Phosphate removal
  • Reduced nitrification
  • Foaming
  • Sludge digestion
  • Odour

Our product range for Municipal Sewage Treatment consists of:

H2S & Odour Control in sewer networks, sludge storage, processing & discharge

MicroCat®-ANL – A microbial fluid containing bacteria that cost-effectively prevent odours caused by H2S formation and rotting of organic material. It prevents nuisance in the environment of pumping stations and wastewater treatment tanks and prolongs the life span of these installations because H2S formation is prevented. In addition, the product works in primary purification and sludge processing.

MicroCat®-ANL is dosed into a sewage pumping station or primary settlement tank via our automatic dosing units on the basis of the average flow rate. The bacteria from the product colonize the network and multiply there. In comparison with chemical alternatives, a small amount of MicroCat®-ANL is required to keep a network of odour and H2S free.

Dry Vapour Unit
Atmospheric deodorization without water. Suitable for indoor and outdoor applications on sludge storage tanks, waste water treatment basins, sludge dewatering facilities and sludge transport.

FOG accumulation in sewage pumping stations and in sewage treatment plants can provide a lot of extra work if these fats clog the pumps and pipes or attach themselves to walls and other parts of wastewater treatment systems such as sludge transfer lines. These problems can be prevented by using MicroCat®-BioPOP or MicroCat®-DNTRF.

Microcat-BioPOP
Ideally suited for use in grease traps, buffer tanks, pump & sewage pumping stations and sewer pipes that suffer from accumulation of FOG. The MicroCat®– BioPOPs are designed for easy placement, attachment and removal via a rope or chain in such systems. A MicroCat®– BioPOP has an average lifespan of 2 to 3 months. The block slowly dissolves in water and releases continuous FOG-degrading bacteria that break down the FOG in the system into CO2 and water.

MicroCat-DNTRF
A concentrated microbial powder for industrial application. Suitable for keeping pumping station, sludge transfer lines and grease separators free of clogging.

Zeptodrop BCA
Quick assistance with sludge loss and exceeding of discharge limit
As a result of the increase in heavy rain showers, sewage treatment plants are increasingly hydraulically overloaded. This may result in sludge escaping the treatment works and in exceeding discharge limits in respect of suspended solids and chemical oxygen demand (COD).

Zeptodrop BCA is a very effective flocculating agent based on poly aluminium chloride compounds in combination with organic and inorganic additives. This product range has been specially developed for very quick reactions under the most extreme conditions.

With the aid of our special dosing installations, which can be placed in existing buildings or in containers, an emergency facility can be set up that can be easily switched on when unwanted sludge wasting with the effluent of the treatment plant is imminent.

Our wastewater treatment specialists will gladly visit you to make an inventory of the solution that is most applicable to you.

MicroCat products to support biology
The biology of a sewage treatment plant can be disrupted or even completely collapse as a result of toxic discharges. Nitrifying bacteria are particularly sensitive to such events. MicroCat products are an effective means to realize a rapid restart of biology or, if the problems are seen in advance, to break down the toxic substances before they cause irreparable damage.

There are several MicroCat® formulations for among others:

  • Restoration of the nitrification
  • Solving and prevention of filamentous micro-organism formation
  • Degradation of specific chemical compounds from industrial discharges
  • Sludge mass reduction

These solutions often result in savings in the area of chemical consumption, which means they fit in a more sustainable way of waste water treatment.

Anti-foaming agents
Direct effective foam reduction. Biodegradable for different forms of foam including foam caused by filamentous micro-organisms.

MicroCat-SBP Technology – Bioaugmentation Made Easy!

QM Environmental Services Netherlands has worked in collaboration with international partners to simplify the dosing of its microbial products in wastewater treatment plants.

The SBP capsules are equipped with micro-membranes and MicroCat bacteria. The capsules work as a Membrane Bioreactor. The membranes keep the MicroCat bacteria in the capsule, separated from the waste water.

Wastewater and contaminants pass through the membranes to feed the bacteria in the capsules and break down the contaminants.

The SBP capsules form a small bioreactor (Small Bioreactor Platform) and are an alternative to daily bacterial doses for wastewater treatment plants that use bioaugmentation. The capsules have a lifespan of 1 to 2 months, which means that the perforated cage in which the capsules are held must be refilled once a month. The cage is suspended in the wastewater using a hoist.

qPCR/Biodegradation Tests/Consulting

QM Environmental Services Nederland offers a comprehensive service in case of operational problems in your wastewater treatment plant. This service consists of a site visit, qPCR analysis to map the biomass of your treatment and thus identify the problem.
A structural solution to the problems is then developed from the data from this research. This solution can consist of advising operational changes, dosing a product (biological and/or chemical) or hardware adjustments to the system.

Trace elements analysis / Optimization Methane yield
Problem analysis (Co, Mo, Ni, Se, …) and if necessary a proposal for supplement mixture.

Iron salts
Support for pellet formation and removal of toxic sulphide / H2S.

Under development: Aquarel Bio-coagulant
Fully biodegradable coagulant which binds suspended matter directly in the pellet sludge in the event of incidents.

Small scale systems are designed to treat the sewage from one or several households. In principle, small scale systems can experience the same problems that a large sewage treatment plants experience. Often, however, these problems are not visible because the system is underground. Only when odour nuisance occurs or when the effluent has a strange colour or starts to foam these are problems detected. When the small scale system receives waste water from people who use a lot of medicines, such as antibiotics or cytostatics (chemotherapy), the biology of the system can be greatly disrupted.

MicroCat products can be used to quickly and reliably start and maintain the biology of a small scale system. Odor nuisance is prevented and the system continues to function optimally.

MicroCat products are applicable in Class 1 (septic tank), 2 (septic tank + aeration for COD removal) and 3A (septic tank + aeration tank for COD and nitrogen removal) systems. With the help of our Aquarel products, Class 3B systems can also be assisted in phosphate removal.

For small scale systems which receive waste water with medicine residues, we supply MicroCat-HX. This product has been specially developed for application in extremely toxic conditions.
